Board games are often used as a tool in therapy to teach social, sequencing, expressive, and receptive language skills! Using low-tech games is important for all kids.
In this class, your child will work on developing social communication, using language to express wants and needs, hearing their peers, and adjusting accordingly. This class will focus on empowering our children to communicate with confidence, something our phones and iPads seem to take away from all of us.
Who should sign up for this class?
- This class is designed for any child that could benefit from intentional social engagement with peers, under the counsel of a speech-language pathologist.
- Although this class is appropriate for children with communication disorders, it is equally appropriate and open to children who could simply benefit from social engagement and low-tech play.
What is the objective of this class?
- This class is designed to create a space for children who may be struggling with communication to connect with others who have similar struggles. Serving as a beneficial and fun activity in the week!
- Although not a replacement for individual speech therapy, this class is an opportunity for social communication work.
- An introduction to what speech therapy could help with for the individual with communication difficulties, disorders, or differences.
How group classes can help
Language is how children understand the world and share what they think, feel, and need. When understanding (receptive language), expression (expressive language), or social communication (pragmatic language) develops differently, targeted therapy classes help to close the gap.
